Newsletter - Dry Skin Brushing
Skin is considered the largest organ of the body. The
primary purpose of the skin is to assist in the elimination of body wastes.
It is interesting to note that the body makes new skin every twenty-four
hours. Under normal circumstances the skin should eliminate approximately
two pounds of waste daily!
One of the most efficient ways to assist the skin with
the elimination of toxins is to begin "dry skin brushing" daily.
Dr. Bernard Jensen states: "Dry skin brushing
is one of the finest of all bathes. No soap can wash the skin as clean as
the new skin you have under the old. Skin brushing removes the old dead layers.
This helps to eliminate uric acid crystals, catarrh and various other acids
in the body."
Important benefits from dry skin
brushing daily
- Brushing activates the pores in the skin to remove
more waste materials like uric acid crystals, catarrh, and other acids and
impurities more efficiently than soap and water.
- Brushing increases and stimulates blood circulation in
all the underlying organs, connective tissues and lymphatic system.
- Brushing revitalizes and increases the capacity of the
skin to eliminate toxins from the system.
- Brushing stimulates hormone function - especially the oil
producing glands. By keeping the pores open, the skin is better able to
retain its natural oils.
- Brushing has a powerful rejuvenating influence on the nervous
system as it stimulates the nerve endings in the skin.
- Brushing contributes to better muscle tone and better distribution
of fat deposits within the tissues.
How to skin brush
The best time to brush is in the morning before a bath
or shower and as an option, just before bed time in the evening. Begin by
placing the right foot on a stool or chair and brush using a combination
of short quick strokes moving and long sweeping strokes. Use more pressure
on all strokes moving in the direction of the colon. Always brush towards
the colon! Be sure to brush all surface areas - remember to do the soles
of the feet and use a brush with an extended handle to reach the back. A
good skin brushing should take you from four to six minutes. Extra attention
can be given to knees, hips, stomach, elbows, buttocks to improve circulation
in those areas. For a more invigorating effect, consider deep breathing during
the entire time spent brushing. Use a special brush for the neck and face
and brush in gentle upward motions. Cleaning the brush is recommended at
least once a week using rubbing alcohol and a cotton cloth.
